Dobermann were first recognised as a breed in 1899 and are the largest of the Pinscher family. Their name comes from the man who developed the breed, Karl Fredreich Louis Dobermann, who wanted a dog that would harness: speed, intelligence and courage. By carefully breeding Pinscher with bloodlines of German Shepherd, Weimaraner, Greyhound, Manchester Terrier and Rottweilers, the Dobermann was born.
